The ethics rules have changed--and the Ethics Opinions have changed, too. Since January 2005, Oregon lawyers have a new ethics code, the Oregon Rules of Professional Conduct. This book is updated and revised to conform to the new Oregon RPCs. The OSB Legal Ethics Committee has replaced citations to the former DRs with citations to the analogous Oregon RPC and added citations to newer case law and other interpretive authorities, including the ABA Model Rules. In addition, the committee completely revised some opinions to reflect developments in the law and others to reflect differences between the Oregon RPCs and the old Disciplinary Rules. Every practicing lawyer faces myriad ethics conundrums every day, including: current and former client conflicts; IOLTA questions; advertising in the electronic age; unlawful practice of law and working with nonlawyers; withdrawal or termination of representation; and disclosure requirements and confidentiality.
