This year’s two-day virtual Oregon Tax Institute will feature a stellar lineup of presenters and some familiar faces: an IRS update from Commissioner Charles Rettig, a look at the fundamentals of partnership taxation for estate planners with Paul Lee, and insight from “Handy” Hevener about how payroll taxes could fund Covid-19 relief programs. George Karibjanian will share 13 things you may not know about Form 706 and filing a federal estate tax return, and Professors Bruce McGovern, Cass Brewer, and Jim Delaney will provide a federal tax update. Other tax experts will cover a range of timely topics to help ensure that tax practitioners are best situated to advise clients: a state and local tax roundtable, reviewing the PPP at a state level, and the IRS’s use of John Doe summonses and what that means to an individual taxpayer’s ability to come into compliance with the tax laws.
Hear an investigative financial reporter explain what he has learned during 30 years of covering offshore financial centers and exposing investment fraud, tax, and money laundering schemes while they’re in progress. As the legal profession continues to function in a primarily remote world, explore how to “Lawyer Like an Athlete” by building endurance, outsmarting burnout, and bringing your best self to work (qualifies for Mental Health/Substance Use credit). Follow that Thursday afternoon session by joining your colleagues for a virtual social hour on Remo. Your institute registration includes home or office delivery of a hosted snack box of regional treats to enjoy during the social hour. Please see the event brochure for order and delivery details (time sensitive).
